Malerweg

Painter's trail, Saxon Switzerland 

In the 19th century, romantic painters hiked along a route through the Elbsandsteingebirge known as the ‘Malerweg’. They called the region ‘Saxon Switzerland’. With a plate camera, I took negatives of the spots that impressed them, evoking strong emotions and reflective thoughts. For printing, I used argyrotype, a modern Van Dyke Brown emulsion, to enhance the feeling. This because in my opinion, any modern colour photograph somehow does away with their introspective and “flaneur” like mood. By using these old tehniques, the landscape claims its own again, and stops being a touristic site.
